The 5-Element doctrine
The 5-element theory or "philosophy of the nourishing cycle" is a traditional nutritional philosophy, the basis of which is the alternating interaction of the 5 elements mentioned. They nourish, follow and condition each other. Wood feeds fire, which burns down to ash. Ash nourishes the earth, which yields metal, metal enriches water.
