Verival heritage grains

From own contract cultivation

The Swiss classic reinterpreted

Originally produced by the Swiss doctor M. Bircher-Benner (1867-1939) as a diet food, reinterpreted by us. With heritage grains from whole oats and Verival wheat from our own contract farming, refined with 3-fruit flakes, sultanas, figs, diced apples, apple flakes and almonds.

Our promise:

  • Without the use of chemical-synthetic pesticides
  • Without added colour and flavourings
  • Without preservatives
  • GMO-free

Nutrient-rich hazelnuts

Hazelnuts strengthen the heart and blood vessels, lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure and have a positive effect on memory. They also provide many important minerals, have a relatively high fibre content and are a good source of vegetable protein.

Verival Heritage Grains

Since 2010, our own registered wheat variety, the Verival Heritage Grains, has been recultivated and grown by our Austrian contract farmers as part of an extensive biodiversity programme. This millennia-old wheat variety is the most valuable basis of our organic muesli creations, and with good reason.

Apples - high in vitamins

The apples contained in this product provide you with vitamins B1, B2 and B6. The local fruit is therefore a real vitamin bomb, which activates your metabolism and regulates blood fats and cholesterol. The apple is also rich in potassium, a mineral that is particularly important for athletes to provide the muscles with the energy they need.

With one portion of muesli you eat a balanced and healthy meal. All important basic building blocks are supplied to your organism. And this is best done right at the start of the day!

In the morning, it is particularly important to eat a high-fibre meal. This is because fibre is good for the digestion, makes you feel full for a long time and thus prevents ravenous appetite attacks. Beta glucan, an indigestible fibre contained in oats, has many positive qualities: the blood sugar level is regulated, the feeling of fullness sets in earlier, the cholesterol level in the blood is lowered and the immune system is activated.

Beta-glucan is only found in a few foods

The basis of our mueslis are grains, nuts and seeds. These are important vegetable protein sources, which play an important role especially in a vegan diet. Protein is not only important for building muscles, but also for many other processes in the body. It plays an important role in building enzymes and hormones, is needed to build antibodies and maintain our immune system and transports oxygen and fat.

Our breakfast products contain many vegan protein sources

Oats and heritage grains form the basis of our delicious muesli creations. They are very rich in fibre and therefore particularly well tolerated. The beta glucan contained in them keeps you full for a long time and lowers the blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Our Verival Heritage Grains are particularly well tolerated and contain even more protein and vitamins than other grains. And there is another great characteristic of the original corn: It provides a very good source of serotonin, also known as the "feel-good hormone", which is said to have a mood-lifting effect.

Heritage Grains - The Verival recultivation project

Heritage Grains - The Verival recultivation project

With our grain recultivation project, we have been committed for many years to increase high-quality heritage grain varieties such as einkorn, emmer, spelt, rye and oats.

Old corn varieties have been largely spared from yield-enhancing breeding measures, which means they are particularly well tolerated by the human organism. They have a higher protein content, contain more minerals and more carotenoids. This is why we have chosen these grains as the basis for the recipe of our Heritage Grains Mueslis.

The future belongs to recycling

The future belongs to recycling

We are convinced of this. After all, the aim must be to extend the life cycle of existing materials as much as possible so that fewer resources are needed to produce new materials. This is why we focus on recyclability in our packaging and are pleased that our breakfast products have been awarded the "Made for Recycling" certificate. You can find out more about packaging on our social responsibility page.

Frequently asked questions

Is muesli healthy?

Yes, as long as you pay attention to the right ingredients. Oatmeal is the perfect base for your muesli, as it is made up of many soluble fibres called beta-glucans. They lower blood and cholesterol levels and ensure that you feel full for a long time. Berries provide your body with many important vitamins and minerals. Nuts, seeds and kernels are the ideal supplement for a healthy muesli, also contain many vitamins and are an excellent source of vegetable protein.

What is beta-glucan and why is it good for me?

Beta-glucan is a fibre with a special effect. A daily dose of 3g of beta-glucan has been shown to reduce blood cholesterol levels and has many health benefits. One of the main sources of beta-glucan is oats. One portion of muesli (50g) provides about 0.6g of beta-glucan and therefore provides you with 20% of your daily beta-glucan requirement.

Why muesli from Verival?

Quality and careful handling of all ingredients, from cultivation to processing, is our top priority. That's why we only use high-quality organic ingredients in our Verival Heritage Grains Mueslis. By growing original cereal varieties, we also contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and counteract the lack of varieties.

What are Heritage Grains?

With the cultivation and use of so-called heritage grains, we want to make an active contribution to preserving biodiversity and counteracting the impoverishment of varieties. Original grains are indigenous grain varieties that were already being grown before industrialisation entered European agriculture. The plants are therefore left in their original, natural form and not altered by various breeding methods. Together with our organic contract farmers, we make sure that these grains are cultivated, cared for, harvested and processed in a gentle way.

Where does the original Bircher recipe actually come from?

The recipe comes from Maximilian Oskar Bircher-Benner, who spread the Bircher muesli more than 120 years ago. During a hike in Switzerland, where he comes from, the doctor was served a muesli mixture that was already very similar to Bircher muesli. His enthusiasm was so great that in 1900 he created his own perfected mixture and thus the famous Bircher Muesli. From then on, doctor Bircher-Benner served this healthy breakfast daily to his patients as a healthy dietary meal.
