3 reasons why we are striking for the climate

“Don’t panic, go organic!” With this message we from Verival are also taking part in the global climate strike in Vienna today on the 27th September 2019, because the climate is an issue that concerns us all. We are convinced that every small step in the direction of a climate-friendly and sustainable world is an important, but also inevitable one, and that nobody is not too small or too insignificant to do something about it. We want to draw a line under the motto “I alone can’t do anything and can’t change anything anyway” and that’s why we are going out on the streets together with other thousands to demonstrate for the climate. Because we have only one planet and it is really time for a change in our thinking and especially in our actions.

As Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old climate activist from Sweden, who started the incredible movement “Fridays for Future” in the form of weekly climate strikes a little more than a year ago, emphasized in her speech at the “World Economic Forum” in Davos on 22 January 2019:

“We all have a choice. We can create transformational action that will safeguard the living conditions for future generations. Or we can continue with our business as usual and fail. That is up to you and me.” (Greta Thunberg, “The World Economic Forum” in Davos, 22 January 2019)

3 reasons why we are on strike for the climate today

1. The climate is an issue concerning all of us

We are all inhabitants of this planet and therefore have a responsibility to protect our environment, our home. Everyone should take responsibility for his or her own daily behaviour, because all our actions have a direct or indirect impact on the Earth’s climate. Whether it concerns food shopping, traveling, clothing, waste separation or any other area of life –  our daily choices are important to reduce and in the best case scenario stop global warming. When it comes to climate protection, everyone can make a contribution, no matter how small it may be. It’s not about losing yourself in perfection, but about taking small steps every day towards a more sustainable and more conscious lifestyle. The reasons for this are quite simple: the climate concerns us all. And: Together we can move mountains!

2. Setting an example – as a company and as individuals

With our participation in the climate strike, we also want to make a statement, both as a company and as individuals. A sign that the climate concerns us all and that we have to change something and become more sustainable in small steps. We are ready for a change and we want to make that clear. In addition, we want to motivate other people, companies and institutions to participate and show their willingness to do much more for the protection of the climate.

As a company, you can also strike for the climate. Under the “Entrepreneurs for Future” movement, entrepreneurs who want to promote climate protection or who are committed to ensuring that faster and better solutions for climate protection with innovative products, technologies, services and business models are developed, can take part.

3. Politics has to change and climate targets must be met

The Fridays for Future movement, along with many people around the world, is calling for the only realistic response to the impending climate catastrophe: a bold climate policy in line with the 1.5°C target. For a really big change in the daily behavior of many, politics also has to take appropriate measures.

Even with your voter turnout, you can have a significant influence on climate policy in your country. Therefore, use your right to vote and inform yourself about the climate policy approaches of the different parties.

Of course, the first step towards fighting climate change is always that everyone should voluntarily integrate small steps into his or her everyday life and question and change his or her own consumer behaviour. However, a strong climate policy is also important in order to encourage companies to use our existing resources in a climate-friendly, sustainable and careful way.

In conclusion, we would like to invite you once again to set an example for climate protection today. The change starts with you and it is very important that everyone contributes. If everyone changes a few small things in their everyday decisions and actions, a lot can already be achieved. As Greta Thunberg has repeatedly pointed out: “No one is too small to make a difference.”

Our conclusion

We are overwhelmed by the lively participation at Fridays For Future on the 27th September 2019 in Vienna. We are happy that so many people see that the climate concerns us all and that change is coming. The fact that the climate concerns us all could also clearly be seen in the age of the participants, because both young and old were actively involved in the climate strike.
